Flagstaff Doulas
Supporting you in creating positive pregnancy , birth and early parenting experiences
Hello
Hello! My name is Anne Mariah Tapp and I’ve been lucky to call Flagstaff home for the last 12 years. I am a licensed massage therapist, an attorney, and a rock climber. I came into massage, and my focus on abdominal bodywork, from a very personal place. After several miscarriages, including a ruptured ectopic pregnancy, I took the leap to become a massage therapist and learn about different ways to support our bodies through healing processes. I attended the Sedona School of Massage and then took a suite of advanced trainings with the Abdominal Therapy Collective focused on Abdominal Therapy. I am currently working toward my certification in McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release.
Abdominal Therapy (formerly known as Mayan Abdominal Massage) is a beautiful body of work that has been passed down from Mayan medicine man Don Eligjio Panti and traditional healer Miss Hortense Robinson to Rosita Arvigo who co-founded the Abdominal Therapy Collective. Abdominal Therapy was created to support the health of the abdomen and uterus, particularly around issues related to fertility (including attempts to conceive, challenges with menstrual cycles, the post-partum healing process, perimenopause, and menopause) and digestion. The bodywork itself is a specific, non-invasive, fully external procedure that addresses the exterior surfaces of the abdomen from the diaphragm down to the pubic bone, and the entirety of the lower back and glutes. Treatment sessions last roughly 75 minutes. Abdominal Therapy orients around the concept of NAVEL – that our core houses Nerves, Arteries, Veins, Energy, and Lymph systems. The specific strokes of Abdominal Therapy address each of these systems, inviting our bodies to return back to internal harmony. One really wonderful part of the work is that each session includes dedicated time to teaching clients an abdominal self-massage that can be practiced at home on a regular basis. For clients who wish to address the effects of scars, including C-Section or other abdominal scars, we can include specific scar tissue release techniques.
I’m really excited to share Abdominal Therapy and scar tissue work with the Flagstaff Doula community. My overarching goal for my bodywork is to help my clients feel healthy, supported, capable, and more resourced to cultivate and share the unique skills that each of us brings to the world.
